THE TRIAL AGAINST THE FUR FARM INVESTIGATORS

Fur farm investigators from Nettverk for dyrs frihet (Network for animal freedom) have repeatedly exposed how fox and mink are suffering in Norwegian fur farms, by taking pictures and documenting the animals living conditions. The fur industry is now trying to stop these efforts by dragging the activists to court and demanding several hundred thousand NOK in compensation. The trial against the fur farm investigators took place February 23rd-24th 2016 in Jæren district court, and sentencing is March 2nd.

Instead of taking responsibility for the way the animals are being treated, the industry instead attacks the ones who uncover and alert the public about the horrible conditions in these farms.

WHAT ARE THE FUR FARM INVESTIGATORS DOING?

A fur farm investigator is someone who investigates and alerts the public about the critical or illegal conditions they have observed at fur farms. The fur farm investigators from Nettverk for dyrs frihet are documenting how the animals are being treated in these farms, and alerts the media, the police and the Food Safety Authority about their discoveries. Nettverk for dyrs frihet believes that fur farming must be banned.

WHAT WE DO

In the time period between 2008-2014, fur farm investigators from Nettverk for dyrs frihet inspected roughly 200 farms all over the country. The pictures they have gathered have provided a chilling new insight into the conditions at the farms, both to the general public and the politicians.

BACKDROP FOR THE TRIAL

After an investigation into a farm (which belonged to a fur farm leader) in Rogaland in 2013, where serious cases of animal abuse was documented and reported, several fur farm investigators were arrested. The fur industry then decided to press charges. The fur farm investigators are now charged for wrongfully entering the farm, and the fur industry is demanding 250.000 NOK in economic compensation.

THEIR GOAL IS TO STOP THE DISCLOSURES

By pressing charges and demanding economic compensation from a voluntary organisation, the fur industry wants to make it impossible for Nettverk for dyrs frihet to continue to investigate the conditions at the farms. The fur industry wants to put an end to the disclosures which have added to the trend of the general public increasingly distancing themselves from the fur industry.

WHO ARE THE FUR FARM INVESTIGATORS?

These three fur farms investigators from Nettverk for dyrs frihet is awaiting a trial where the fur industry will try to put an end to their work. By inspecting the farms, they have revealed extensive animal abuse. The deserve all of our support for their efforts for the animals.

“Several hundred inspections have shown that fur breeding never can be compatible with good animal welfare, and that is why fur farming must be banned.”

``What happens in the farms would never have been brought to light if we did not make this happen ourselves. The fur farm investigators are revealing the hidden animal abuse to the public.”

“Our investigations show that fur farming is unacceptable, even if the existing regulations are followed. Both politicians and professional animal welfare bodies now see that a ban is the only way to go.”
